“Saving their best ‘til last”……

Our under 16A Boys had their last league game of the season against ballincollig in the Fr Mathews Arena this morning, in what was also a decider to see which of the two teams would qualify for the All Ireland Club Championships.

In what was one of the best, closest and well supported games seen in the Fr Mathews Arena, a great start from Fr Mathews gave them a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Credit to Ballincollig, they stepped up with a big response in the second quarter and led 24-27 at half time.

There was very little between the teams in Q3, with Ballincollig edging it by a point to lead by 4 going into the last quarter.

It was time for the boys to “go to the well” and see if they could respond to the challenge and put into practice what they had worked on so hard at training all season. And boy did they respond…..

A 20-6 last quarter, with an incredible display in offence and defence saw them run out 57-47 winners and now qualify for the All Ireland’s in mid April.

Great credit to the players and the coaches – Ian, Paul & Martin – and to Ballincollig for a fantastic finale to the league season.
