From a ‘1 team’ club to one of the biggest clubs in the country
Serving the Southside of Cork from Rochestown to Bishopstown (East to West) & Blackrock to Frankfield (North to South).
Currently located at Model Farm Road, Cork. (Fr.Mathews Arena)
28 different nationalities make up the Fr Mathew’s family, including:
English, Scottish, Spanish, Portuguese, Lithuanian, Slovakian, Philippine, Georgian, Serbian, American, Polish, Nigerian, Dutch, Croatian & many others represented within our playing population

In 17 years Fr Mathew’s have been acknowledged on numerous occasions for their contribution to the community as well as on the National stage:
- Twice awarded Cork County Board ‘Club of the Year’ – 2008 & 2011
- Lord Mayor’s ‘Community & Volunteer Award – 2011’
- Numerous ‘Club of the Month’ awards – the Cork Independent, Cork FM, Evening Herald
- Basketball Ireland ‘Club of the Month’
- Cork Volunteer Week – ‘Best Display Stand’ 2010 & 2011
Beyond Basketball
Fr Mathew’s is more than just a basketball club.
It’s a social outlet for so many children with numerous fun activities throughout the year. Favourite dates on our calendar include:

We provide children with the opportunity to see other parts of the world & play against children from different cultures across the globe
London, Manchester, New York, Belfast, Athens, Barcelona, Lublin and Paris have all welcomed the Fr Mathew’s basketball family

Communicating to the masses
Fr Mathew’s embraces modern technology to keep all club members connected and involved.
Fr Mathew’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages are hugely popular page with daily updates, match reports, information on the club and an extensive Photo Gallery.
We also produced a full colour, monthly magazine called ‘Hoop Scene’ for all club members. This e-magazine received many accolades and was acknowledged as ‘Best in Class’ in Irish sporting circles

Player & Coach Development
Fr Mathew’s Basketball Club is not just about success on the court. We believe in developing our teams in a wide ranch of aspects within the sport
All our coaches have:
- Garda Vetting and some have Safeguarding training
- Irish Basketball Coaching qualifications with emphasis on continual development
- We actively develop our underage players to become coaches. Players begin with our Academy progressing to our underage system.
Fr Mathew’s and the community
Fr Mathew’s actively promote the sport of Basketball in the community.
In conjunction with the Garda Siochana, we have run National Schools Tournaments and Street Leagues on the Southside of Cork city bringing the sport of basketball closer to children across the city
Over 20 Boys & Girls National Schools have competed in our schools tournaments.
Over 120 children have attended our Summer/Halloween/Christmas/Mid Term & Easter Basketball Camps.
Fr Mathew’s & Wheelchair Basketball
Fr Mathew’s was one of the first clubs in the country to embrace wheelchair basketball.
Our Senior Wheelchair team competed in the Division One National League.
